I used to wash my hands every time I touched a dog. I was much more a cat person. Once I discovered dachshunds, I was hooked. After buying 2 pet dogs, I have now graduated to the not-advertised-in-the-newspaper echelon of dogdom.
Dachshunds are great for competitive personalities as they can compete in 6 different AKC events. So far I have tried conformation (structural soundness,) field trials (tracking rabbit scent) and earthdog competition (simulated tunnel hunting) and the Basset Club of America's Hunt Tests (dogs hunting up their own game.) I am lucky to have dogs that enjoy all this silliness!
